As Part 2 of February’s mini-series on coherence, I offer you a simple, but incredibly powerful qigong form: Calming the Waters.
This form at its essence is a movement of expansion and contraction; outward and inward, yang and yin.
But it is in this gentle pendulation between polarities where coherence is to be found.
The medicine of this form is for the kidneys and the water element. The kidneys (also of the season of winter), dislike shock and extremes. As the name suggests, this form is offering calm and serenity. It gently harmonizes the yang and the yin expression of the kidneys. It brings your system into coherence.
This form was taught to me as a peace-making practice. Can you imagine doing this form in witness to an argument or conflict? Or when struggling to find common ground, if you paused and calmed the waters with your partner, or an entire group?
Regardless of circumstance, you can practice this form as an embodied prayer for peace—both in the world and within you.
This leads me to consider: is coherence another expression of peace?
I’d love to hear what you experience when you practice this form. Please share in the comments.
